PASCO, WA - In preparation for Christmas next week, many families are adding their own cultural flare to the Christmas dinner.
Many Hispanic homes will be celebrating Christmas with tamales and turkey.
The most common tamales are made with pork, chicken, beef, or vegetables and are wrapped with either cornhusks or banana leaves. The sizes, colors and shapes vary among Latin American countries.
"Traditional items that your family can purchase for these holidays, we offer a variety of things for tamales, pozole, all those traditional foods that your family can purchase here at Fiesta Foods," said Eri Mendoza, Fiesta Foods.
The history of tamales has been traced back to the ancient Aztec and Maya civilizations, who prepared them for their feasts as early as 1200 BC.
Juan Torres, store manager for the Pasco Fiesta Foods says each store will gear up to process thousands of orders for tamales over the Christmas holiday.
Fiesta Foods has store locations in Yakima, Sunnyside, Pasco and Hermiston.
