Richland Church and Community Members Deliver Food & Toys to Local Families

Posted: Updated:

RICHLAND, WA - Church members at Christ the King Catholic Church in Richland and other community members spent Saturday morning packing boxes of food and gifts for those in need this Christmas.

It's all a part of the church's annual food drive which dates back to the 1980s. Volunteers filled boxes and bags with cleaning supplies, toys, non-perishables and fresh produce donated by local farmers.

This year, the church was able to help 125 families living in Richland, West Richland and Benton City.

"We're all about giving glory to God and building community and also witnessing to our children, so that they can see--through the adult leaders in their lives--how you can go out in the community and make a difference," said Maria Roach, one of the organizers of the event.

Organizers say this food drive is rewarding because a lot of the people they help, eventually pay it forward by volunteering at future food drives.
