KENNEWICK, WA – About 1,800 runners registered for the 35th Annual Lampson Cable Bridge Run.

"I ran a couple marathons a couple years ago and didn't run nearly as much this year and started picking it up again. I've got a marathon coming up in April," said Janson Sloughter who ran a 10K to warm up before the official "fun run" even began.

Sloughter was just one of the many participants in this year's run across the Cable Bridge. It takes hundreds of volunteers to setup the course and make sure it is salted and not icy. Police work with the cities to block the roads as an entire part of the Tri-Cities shuts down.

"We get people coming back from all over the state when they come back for Christmas to spend time with their families. They register and it's kind of part of the holidays," said Allison Mathews from Recreation Services in the City of Pasco.

The annual event always starts with Santa being lifted over the crowd in a Lampson crane, signaling the start of the run.
