HoHo Gymnastics Meet in Yakima Shows Different Holiday Tradition

Posted: Updated:

YAKIMA, WA. -- Not every holiday tradition includes gifts and trees but the Ho Ho Christmas gymnastics meet makes some kids just as excited as the big holiday.

The 25-year-old event brings gymnastics teams from Ellensburg, Wenatchee and Yakima together every year to compete for medals and pride. The competition includes girls ages 7 all the way to 18, and for some it's their very first performance.

A Yakima gymnastics coach says exersize like this sets the girls up for future success.

"Hopefully (this) gives them a love of movement for the rest of their lives," Laurie Reid said. "We're really into fitness for young children. We want kids to get up off the couch, we want to see kids be active."

Over 60 girls competed in 5 different areas Saturday. This is the first gymnastics meet of the season for the Yakima gymnastics team.
