LITTLETON, Colo. (AP) - Hospital officials in Colorado say Claire Davis had a "fighting spirit," but her injuries were too severe.

The 17-year-old suburban Denver high school student died yesterday.

She was shot in the head more than a week ago by a classmate who'd come to the school heavily armed.

The Arapahoe County sheriff says it's likely 18-year-old Karl Pierson was seeking revenge on a staff member who had disciplined him, but Davis became a random target. Pierson killed himself shortly after shooting Davis.
