RICHLAND, WA - The Richland PTA still needs your help with their ongoing fundraiser. For the past month they have been collecting shoes.

The shoes will be sent to an African country where many of the children are poor and starving. The kids in Africa will wear the shoes that fit and they will sell or manufacture by-products from the material of the shoes as well. The PTA will receive some kick-back funds from the non-profit group that collects the shoes. Their plan is to create scholarships for Richland students with about $8,000.

"Our goal is at least before the school year ends we really need to get those shoes in so that we can provide those scholarships, especially for the seniors graduating this year we want to be able to provide those for them," said Julia Webb of the Richland PTA.

Only about a quarter of the shoes needed have been collected. Local businesses like A-Team Cross Fit Gym have bins set up to collect more and classes at Badger Mountain Elementary have made the shoe collection their class project.
