Foul Play Ruled Out in Dayton Teenager's Death

Posted: Updated:

DAYTON, WA - The Columbia County Sheriff's Office says it has ruled out foul play in the death of a 17-year-old boy from Dayton.

Deputies say a Columbia County Transfer Station employee discovered the body of 17-year-old Cody J. Snider lying on the ground just inside the fence near the public access road below Rock Hill just before 11 o'clock Saturday morning.

Deputies say the investigation is still open, but they believe the teenager fell roughly 150 feet from the top of the cliff above the transfer station as many as two days before he was found.

Prosecutors say the death appears to be accidental. Investigators say hazardous weather conditions in difficult terrain may have been a factor.

The Columbia County Transfer Station, located at 500 S Cottonwood Street in Dayton, is only open Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. The Columbia County Coroner doesn't plan to perform an autopsy.
