WEST RICHLAND, WA - Firefighters are trying to figure out what sparked a fire at the Thai City Restaurant, on Van Giesen Street in West Richland.

Investigators say the fire started inside the kitchen, around 8:00 a.m. Monday morning. No one was inside the restaurant at the time.

NBC Right Now spoke with an employee at the restaurant who says the owners are currently in Florida for the holidays. They asked the woman to check out the damage.

"I'm scared! I don't know why the fire started...I just want to see inside," said Pornndam, an employee at the restaurant.

Firefighters from Richland Fire Department, Hanford Fire and Benton County District's #2 and #4 responded to the fire.

"We never want any injuries here, but the other thing is containment of the fire so that we don't impact other businesses where the fire didn't start," said Fire Chief Bill Whealan, of Benton County District #4.

Four other businesses share space at the same strip mall as the Thai City Restaurant. Chief Whealan says they all suffered minor smoke damage.
