Oregon State Police Release Name in Fatal Accident near Milton-Freewater

UPDATE: MILTON-FREEWATER, OR - We now know the name of the man from Milton-Freewater killed in an accident on Highway 11. 

Oregon State Police say 69-year-old Juan Flores-Romero tried to walk across the highway when he was struck by a pickup truck Monday night. Troopers say he died at the scene.  The driver, 31-year-old Miguel Cisneros Lara, wasn't hurt.   


MILTON-FREEWATER, OR - A 69-year old Milton-Freewater man was killed Monday evening when he was hit by a pickup as he attempted to cross Highway 11 on foot in the Milton-Freewater area.

Oregon State Police (OSP) is continuing the investigation and the victim's name will be released Tuesday. According to OSP Sergeant Sterling Hall, the victim was trying to cross Highway 11 near milepost 33 on foot from the west side to the east side when he was struck in the left southbound lane by a 1999 Toyota Tacoma pickup. The victim was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The pickup's driver, 31-year-old Miguel Cisneros Lara from Milton-Freewater, was not injured. He was cited by OSP for Driving While Suspended and Driving Uninsured.

Highway 11 at the scene of the crash consists of two lanes in both directions separated by a center left turn lane. There is no marked crosswalk.

OSP troopers were assisted at the scene by Umatilla County Sheriff's Office, Milton-Freewater Ambulance Service, and ODOT.

The highway was closed nearly 3 hours during the investigation.


NEAR MILTON-FREEWATER, OR - Oregon State Police say there is a fatal accident along Highway 11 at milepost 33 near Milton-Freewater. OSP has not released any other information yet.
