PASCO, WA - Where the government couldn't help, a local church is stepping in.

The Mid-Columbia Meals on Wheels program serves about 2,000 seniors in the region. This year, they faced major cutbacks in their budget when the government stopped paying as much into the program.

When they heard of the lack of funding the Kennewick First United Methodist Church decided to give $10,000 of their seasonal donations to Meals on Wheels.

"To make this contribution to meals on wheels allows us to make a difference and help some people out that we know are significantly in need," said Pastor Jerry Poole.

The church says this donation is like a drop in the bucket. While it helps to give this season, they hope that people will consider giving to charities all year round.

"I'm more than ever sold on the Tri-Cities because of their generous and open hearts," said Betty Sherman, Meals on Wheels.
