NBCRightNow.com - Monday is the deadline for people in Washington to sign up for health insurance under the Affordable Care Act. By Monday, people should have at least started to fill an application online or turned in a paper application.

"People need to know that the deadline in our state is not extended people still need to come to the web site they still need to complete an application and pay for their health plan if they can by this evening," said Bethany Frey, Washington Healthplanfinder.

But Washington Health Exchange rules say if you do not get that done by Monday, all is not lost.

People that finish the application by Monday and pay the first installment will start getting health insurance by January 1.

But the exchange has made it possible for people who have at least started their application to get a bit of extra time.

If your application is finished and your coverage is paid for by January 15 your insurance will retroactively cover your health costs back to January 1.

"Unfortunately there will be a lot of people taking advantage of that because there are still some it glitches that some applications need to go through," said Ruvine Jimenez.

"It's not a perfect solution we know it's going to be complex but we're working with the insurance carriers on that and may be the case that people don't get their insurance card right away," added Frey saying you may have to pay out of pocket if you need to see a doctor during that time.

In Pasco 300 people recently scheduled appointments for in-person help to enroll.

Community Action Connections had to hire three assisters to meet the demand that was just too much for volunteers they will continue to enroll people for the next several months.

"We're still enrolling people all the way up until the end of march so don't think this was the one shot try, it isn't," said Jimenez.

After Monday you can still continue enrolling and get coverage as soon as February even if you didn't start an application by Monday.

" would say please don't exclude yourself healthcare is extremely important and especially for those individuals who don't have health care right now," concluded Jimenez.

You can fill out an application online at this web site.
