NBCRightNow.com - It is Christmas Eve and the holiday shopping season is wrapping up.
Shopping Trak is reporting overall sales are down across the U.S. this season. Sales plunged more than three percent compared to last year. And foot traffic at malls across the country is down more than 21 percent.
There also weren't many people seen shopping at the Columbia Center Mall on Tuesday. The exact numbers won't be available until next month but I'm told this shopping season is different from some past years.
"It's a shorter shopping season obviously we started the day after Thanksgiving Black Friday and you know its been pretty steady ever since we've extended our hours throughout the shopping season and I think shoppers are really taking advantage of that," said Jordan Youngs, Columbia Center Mall.
The mall will close on Christmas but will open back up on Thursday for exchanges, returns, or to use up gift cards.
