NBCRightNow.com - This week is a busy one for travelers, trying to rush from place to place to spend time with loved ones, but one flight delay one missed connection and you are facing trouble.

Some people make it cross country without a hitch, while others hit roadblocks with one-hour connecting flights. Some avoid it completely and others take it in stride. Holiday travel is always up in the air.

"It wasn't bad, we didn't have much time but it was ok," said Marilyn Meiger from Orange County made her connecting flight in Salt Lake City with barely any time to spare.

"I think we were dropped off and then through the gate, through security in about 15 minutes," explained Emily Campbell who made it back home to Kennewick with her husband from a cruise in Orlando with ease. However, not everyone is having such an easy experience.

"I thought, ready for takeoff from what the pilot said and then it was quiet and we sat and sat. I'm not sure how long it was, probably 45 minutes. Then they said we were going to deplane," said Merry Sue Mitre.

It was so foggy in Portland this morning that Merry Sue Mitre's flight would not be able to land. Mitre and the rest of the passengers missed connecting flights and were stuck for hours, which can be a real problem when you're in the amount of pain that she is.

"My knee hurts me really bad now and I was getting wheel-chaired everywhere feeling like an invalid. I have my cane," said Mitre.

After deplaning and knowing she would not make her connecting flight, Merry who already traveled from East Wenatchee called it quits. Her husband is in California, but she won't be. Wednesday is not just Christmas for her, it is her and her son's birthdays. She is called Merry for a reason.

"Merry Christmas...Merry Sue...Yeah."

Luckily that same son also happens to live in Richland. He picked her up and took her home for the holidays. So even though her plans to be with her family in California won't be happening this holiday, she will stiill get to be grandma. Merry gets her Merry Christmas after all.

"It's always a joy. I love being a grandmother."
