'Tis the season for Christmas lights, but few go as far as the Davis household in Naches.
YAKIMA, WA - 'Tis the season for Christmas lights, but few go as far as the Davis household in Naches. Over 70,000 lights are included in this display which even has a manger. The man behind it might surprise you.
"There's a lot of thought that goes into where I want things and how to put it together," James Davis said. "I don't like to just throw it up there and forget about it. There's a reason behind everything I do."
James Davis is only 22-years-old. He started decorating back when he was eight and his passion has grown every year since.
"It's not here and you can build it the way you want and it's fun to do," James said.
"As he's gotten older, we've kind of grown into it together and done more and more," Jeff Davis, James' father said. "It's all his idea and I'm just the assistant."
Now the display includes a giant lighted tree and Santa's sleigh, in mid air, arriving on the roof. This takes commitment. On top of the hundreds of hours spent setting it up, the Davis' expect to see at least a $100 increase in electrical bills this month. But for them it's worth the price.
"(It's worth it) when we see people stop and look and turn around and drive back and turn around and drive back again, when we have kids that come out and walk through," Jeff said. "For us it's just contributing to the community's Christmas spirit."
If you want to see the display you better hurry, James says all of the lights will be taken down and put in storage by mid-January.
The display is on the 9100 Block of Old Naches Highway.
