Jon Kitna Makes Return To The Gridiron, Will Donate Salary

Posted:
After spending two years in retirement Jon Kitna, 41, is returning to the NFL, at least for a week.

The former, nay current, pro quarterback signed a one-week contract with the Dallas Cowboys this week following an injury to the team's starter, Tony Romo last Sunday. Kitna ended his career with America's team as the back up to Romo from 2009-'11. Kitna started 124 of his 141 career games, throwing for 29,745 yards, 169 touchdowns and 165 interceptions.

A Tacoma, Wash. native and Central Washington University alum, Kitna has spent the last two years as an algebra teacher and football coach at Lincoln High School (Tacoma, Wash.) where his son, Jordan, is a sophomore and the Abes' starting QB.

According to the Cowboys' website, Kitna called head coach Jason Garrett and offered his services after hearing that Romo was hurt. Kitna said, "I saw Tony (Romo) got hurt, and I told Jason if he needed somebody to come in that could call a play, be able to pull a play off if a bad situation happened, I’d be willing to do that."

The veteran QB plans on donating his $53,000 salary to Lincoln High School according to The Dallas Morning News

Dallas (8-7) will host the Philadelphia Eagles (9-6) on Sunday Night Football with the winner advancing to the playoffs. The game will be live on KHQ/NBC at 5:30 p.m.
