Local Police: No Celebratory Shots on New Year's or Face Charges

Posted: Updated:

NBCRightNow.com - With New Year's just around the corner, police want to remind people that it is illegal to shoot off guns in celebration of the holiday.

Anyone caught shooting a gun faces a misdemeanor charge and possible jail time.

Police say the New Year's holiday is one of the busiest days of the year which is why it's important to be aware of your surroundings, especially if you plan to be outside.

"We have too many people around; bullets do land. We have had instances of property damage and potential injury to people--we've had people wake up in the morning and see a bullet in their bedroom window or a bullet laying on the bed next to their child," said Sergeant Ben Majetich, with the Pasco Police Department.

If you see or hear someone shooting off guns, call police.
