SPOKANE, Wash. – Mackenzie Skapski bounced back from a forgettable performance on Friday night to steal the show on Saturday, holding the Spokane Chiefs to just one goal on 37 shots against. Skapski, a 6th Round 2013 NHL Draft selection of the New York Rangers, was particularly impressive with his glove, snagging many Chiefs shots sent from high-scoring areas.

The Ice got on the board at the 11:35 mark of the 1st with a goal by Levi Cable, assisted by Landon Peel. Just four minutes later, Kootenay capitalized on the first of just two power plays all game for the game-winner as Rinat Valiev found Zach McPhee wide open in the slot.

Dominic Zwerger backhanded a rebound created by a Reid Gow slapshot at the 10:57 mark of the 2nd period to narrow the Kootenay lead to one goal, but that is where it would remain.

The Chiefs finished scoreless on just one power play opportunity, offered late in the 3rd Period.

The Chiefs return to Spokane Arena on Friday, January 3rd for Special Olympics Night, followed on Saturda, January 4th with Coca-Cola Spokane Arena Replica Giveaway Night. Tickets for all Chiefs home games are available in-person at the Chiefs’ Ticket Office, over the phone at (509) 535-PUCK, via TicketsWest outlets and online at www.ticketswest.com.
