PRELIMINARY INFORMATION: FATAL TRAFFIC CRASH - HIGHWAY 20 EAST OF BEND IN DESCHUTES COUNTY

Oregon State Police (OSP) is still on scene investigating a Sunday afternoon single vehicle fatal traffic crash along Highway 20 east of Bend that resulted in the death of an adult male and serious injuries to another adult male. Names may be released Monday after confirmation of next of kin notification. The highway is now open to one lane of travel and traffic updates may be found at TripCheck.com.

Preliminary information indicates on December 29, 2013 at approximately 4:30 p.m., a pickup occupied by two adult males was traveling westbound on Highway 20 near milepost 31 negotiating a curve. The pickup went off the side of the highway and its driver over-corrected trying to bring it back under control. The pickup rolled an unknown number of times before coming to rest off the highway.

The driver was ejected and seriously injured. He was taken by ambulance to St. Charles Medical Center in Bend.

The male passenger was partially ejected and pronounced deceased at the scene.

OSP troopers from the Bend Area Command office are continuing the investigation into the cause of the crash. OSP is assisted at the scene by Deschutes County Sheriff's Office, ODOT and fire personnel.
