KENNEWICK, WA - We're about three weeks away from the return of the Tri-Cities Polar Plunge and registration is now open!

The 2014 event is Saturday, January 18th at the east boat launch at Columbia Park in Kennewick and all of the money raised goes towards the Special Olympics of Washington.

It's the 8th year the Kennewick Police Department has helped put it together.

Last year, KPD helped raise $99,000 and it all goes to Special Olympics programs in Washington.

"Every dollar raised is one dollar that goes to Special Olympics," says Sergeant Randy Maynard. "Every dollar that we turn back to special Olympics, 80 to 82 cents of that dollar comes back to support the almost 1,000 athletes that live and compete in Benton and Franklin counties."

The Polar Plunge returns to Sarg Hubbard park in Yakima about a month later on February 15th.
