Highlands Middle School in Kennewick Gets Flashing Beacon System

Posted: Updated:

KENNEWICK, WA - Highlands Middle School students will now have a set of traffic devices to help them cross 4th Avenue safely in the New Year.

The City has installed a school flashing beacon system for the school, similar to others in the Kennewick School District.

The system should help the crossing guards when stopping traffic and keep traffic slower when students are walking to and from school. When flashing, drivers should be traveling 20 mph or less.

The City says these new beacons there should be no excuse for any drivers to speed or fail to stop for anyone crossing in the school zone.

All elementary and middle schools, within the Kennewick School District and the city limits, now have flashing beacons to warn drivers of school crossing times.
