YAKIMA, WA - Eight Yakima School Districts will have a little extra cash to work with after the new year.

The Yakima County School Retirees' Association is  distributing $6,000 among the schools, allowing them to add activities that aren't possible within the regular budget. Some schools are using the money to add fitness programs while others will take a field trip.

"Since the economy tanked there isn't a lot of extra money, and here in Eastern Washington districts do have a lot of need," said Kathy Schultz, President of the Yakima County Retirees' Association.

The Yakima County Retirees' Association has the highest membership in the state. Schultz said Yakima has between 1,500 to 1,600 members.
