KENNEWICK, WA - Washington's population is growing quickly and according to new statistics from the Census Bureau released Monday, it's the 7th fastest growing state in the nation.

The state's population grew 3.7% in the last three years and now includes nearly 7 million people.

Benton and Franklin counties are big contributors, claiming the highest growth percentages by county in the state.

The rapid growth is getting attention and benefits for the area.

"Benton and Franklin Counties are growing percentage-wise at a much faster pace than all but King County. That sends a message to legislators, that sends a message to the governor's office and to those businesses that are looking for a place to live," said Kennewick Mayor Steve Young.

Richland and Kennewick ranked in the top ten cities for population growth in the state.
