YAKIMA, WA - The airport in Yakima is making their own New Year's resolutions as we start 2014.

Staff at the airport said this year is going to be full of improvement. They are planning on finishing their master plan which looks at what needs to be done five, ten and 20 years down the road.

They are also partnering with the city to start and extensive marketing campaign to bring more awareness to the airport to increase passenger numbers.

Airport staff said this is all to get more people using the airport and possibly flying to more places than just Seattle.

"Our ultimate goal is to expand the frequency.  Recently we did a customer survey and the main poll was to increase the frequencies to Seattle so once we satisfy that, we're going to also look at options as possibly a direct flight to Portland," said airport manager, Rob Peterson.

The airport will also complete two major construction projects one to fix cracked concrete at the terminal, and another to repave parts of the taxiway and add lights and guidance signs to the runway to make it easier for pilots to take off and land.

Staff also said they want to add free Wi-Fi to the airport to make passengers more comfortable while they wait for to board their airplane.
