SPOKANE, Wash. – Gonzaga University's men's basketball team will get its first action of the New Year Thursday when Saint Mary's College visits the McCarthey Athletic Center.

It's the third of four straight home games to open the West Coast Conference season with WCC newcomer University of the Pacific providing the competition Saturday. Pacific joined the conference July, 1, 2013.

While Gonzaga still leads the overall series 57-27, no WCC team has had the success against Gonzaga that Saint Mary's has had since 2010. From 2010-12 the Gaels went 4-3 against the Bulldogs. But Gonzaga has regained control of the series with three straight wins and brings the 57-27 lead in the series into Thursday's game.

Gonzaga had a 17-game winning streak in the series from 1999-2004. Since 2005 Gonzaga has won 17 of 24 meetings. The Gaels ended Gonzaga's streak of 11 straight regular-season titles in 2012. Gonzaga and Saint Mary's have met in the last five WCC Tournament championship game with the Bulldogs winning three times, and the team have finished 1-2 in the regular season the last 10 seasons with Gonzaga taking the top spot nine of those years.

The Bulldogs are 12-2 overall and undefeated in two WCC outings while the Gaels snapped a 3-game losing streak with a win over Pacific Monday in the WCC opener for both teams.
