YAKIMA, WA - In Yakima, the first baby born this year came at 12:40 a.m. at Yakima Valley Memorial Hospital weighing eight pounds three point four ounces.

Mayah Lou Melendrez is the newest addition to her family.

Her parents, Mary Lou and Anthony, said this is their first child together, and they're very grateful to welcome a new baby girl.

"It brings us together," said Anthony Melendrez. "It brings us together more, the kids my wife. She's the center of our attention now. Everything's for her."

Melendrez said he's happy to have the first New Year's baby and hopes one day Mayah Lou will get to see herself in this story on the news.
