Spokane Marine Died In Afghanistan New Year's Day

SPOKANE, WA -  The Department of Defense announced the death on Thursday of a Marine who was supporting Operation Enduring Freedom.

Sgt. Jacob M. Hess of Spokane, died January 1st, 2014, while supporting combat operations in Helmand Province, Afghanistan. He was 22-years-old. 

The Inland NW Red Cross says that Sgt. Hess was the son of Keirsten Lyons (formerly Hess) who is the Regional Service To The Armed Forces Director.

Sgt. Hess was assigned to Marine Aviation Logistics Squadron 26, Marine Aircraft Group 26, 2nd Marine Aircraft Wing, II Marine Expeditionary Force, Camp Lejeune, N.C. 

The incident is currently under investigation.
