KENNEWICK, WA - A decade of work is now just months away from completion. The Carousel of Dreams at the Southridge Sports Complex is really taking shape.
The walls are built, there's a ceiling and it's a full 10,000 square feet of metal and concrete now. The carousel, of course, will go right in the middle with plenty of space around it to watch it go by.
The building will also house a gift shop, a banquet room for parties and a full catering kitchen and concession stand.
"It's a matter of we needed to run it as a business. We honestly felt that the carousel kind of paid for itself but it didn't money. This is here for the next 50 to 100 years, so the catering facilities, the banquet facilities are what really make it make sense and will sustain itself," said Eric Van Winkle of the Carousel Foundation.
The building should be complete in a couple of months and the plan is to start putting the carousel together inside in March. The Carousel of Dreams is expected to open in April.
