Officials Release Name of Man Shot and Killed By Officers Saturday

UPDATE/ YAKIMA, WA. -- The Yakima Coroner's Office identifies the 23-year-old Hispanic man shot by police early Saturday morning.

Rocendo Arias was shot and killed by a Yakima Police Officer around 3 o'clock in the morning at the Classic Auto Wash on East Nob Hill Boulevard. 

According to police, the officer was investigating the vehicle for suspicious activity when he shot and killed Arias. Police are not releasing any other information at this time.



YAKIMA, WA - Yakima Police are now investigating an officer involved shooting that killed one man Saturday morning.

Police say around 3:00 AM, an officer was checking on a suspicious vehicle parked at the car wash at 907 E. Nob Hill Boulevard. 

While contacting the 23-year-old Hispanic man inside the vehicle, the officer shot him. The man died at the scene.

Police haven't said what led up to the shooting, and officers haven't released the man's name. 

The officer, who wasn't injured in the incident, has been with the Yakima Police Department for 14 months.

This is the second officer involved shooting in the region in just two days.
