Oregon Sees Drastic Jump in Flu Cases

Posted: Updated:

PORTLAND, OR - The number of people going to the hospital with the flu in Oregon is rising quickly.

During the week of Christmas, the state reports 81 flu-related hospitalizations. The week before, there were 67 and just 18 the week before that.

A five-year-old boy from Eugene died recently from the flu.

Many cases this year are the H1N1 strain, or the swine flu. It's more likely to hit young adults and children.
