A Walla Walla County Sheriff's Office investigation has identified 17 year old Carlos Valdez as the primary murder suspect in the shooting death of Yesica Olivos, a 20 year old Hispanic female resident of Walla Walla. An arrest warrant for Valdez charging Murder in the First Degree was obtained by WWSO detectives from Walla Walla County Superior Court today,Tuesday January 7, 2014.

Additional arrest warrants charging Rendering Criminal Assistance in the First Degree were obtained by WWSO detectives later the same day, 01/07/14, for Breanne Rutherford and Andres Torres-Rodriguez.

WWSO Detectives developed information which led them to believe that the three suspects were inside the Knights Inn Motel (formerly the Royal Scot Motel) at 20 W. Houston Ave. in Spokane. The assistance of the Spokane Office of the FBI and Spokane Police Department was requested at approximately 4:00 pm today. It was believed that the suspects could still be armed.

Spokane Police Patrol Officers, SWAT and Hostage Negotiators quickly developed a plan and responded to the location. Hostage Negotiators initiated contact with the subjects inside the motel. At approximately 8:00 pm two subjects (a male and a female) came out of the hotel and into police custody safely and peacefully. Approximately 15 minutes later, the remaining two subjects (a male and a female) came out of the hotel and into police custody safely and peacefully.

Three of the four have been identified as Carlos Valdez, Breanne Rutherford, and Andres Torres-Rodriguez. The other female will be identified and interviewed regarding her knowledge and possible involvement in the crime.
