The 2014 USA Boxing National Championships will be held in Spokane, Wash. from Monday Jan. 20 through Saturday Jan. 25. The preliminary and quarterfinal bouts will be held at the HUB Sports Center from Jan. 20 - Jan. 23, with the semifinal and championship bouts being held at the Northern Quest Resort and Casino on Jan. 24 and Jan. 25.

These fights will feature male and female boxers in the elite division (19-40 years old) with recent rule changes, the men boxing without head gear and a new 10-point scoring system, in full effect.

Fighters will include top-Olympic hopefuls. Headlining for the women will be 2012 Olympic gold medalist Claressa Sheilds (Flint, Mich.) and her 2012 Olympic teammates Marlen Esparza (Houston, Texas) and Queen Underwood (Seattle. Wash.). On the men's side of the competition three-time USA Boxing super heavyweight national champion Cam F. Awesome (Lenexa, Texas) will look to retain his title, while the reigning light flyweight USA Boxing national champion Leroy Davila (New Brunswick, N.J.) will also attempt to repeat. A full list of the registered competitors can be found at www.usaboxing.org

Nicholas Jefferson, the 2013 USA Boxing national championships light welterweight silver medalist, and the 2013 USA Boxing featherweight national champion, Jennifer Hamann, joined Sam Adams in the SWX Studio to talk about their road to Spokane and preparation for their upcoming bouts later this month.

The USA Boxing National Championships began in 1888 with many of greatest fighters of all time, such as Cassius Clay (Muhammad Ali), Sugar Ray Leonard, Oscar De la Hoya, Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Andre Ward, getting their start in this premier event.
