Graves Earns 300th Win, Zags Defeat BYU 68-42

Head coach Kelly Graves earned his 300th win as the Gonzaga women's basketball team defeated Brigham Young University 68-42 at the McCarthey Athletic Center on Thursday, Jan. 9, in a West Coast Conference clash. 

The Zags (13-3, 3-1 WCC) handled the pressure of the Cougars' (13-3, 3-2) 6-foot-7 senior center Jennifer Hamson, holding her to just five points, two rebounds and forcing her the foul out with a big chunk of the second half remaining. Hamson entered the game as BYU's leading scorer and rebounder, averaging 19.2 points per game and 10.3 rebounds per game. 

The Bulldogs won the battle of the boards 43-32 over the Cougars, much in part to the defensive effort used to keep Hamson at bay. Junior forward Sunny Greinacher led Gonzaga with 20 points and seven rebounds. Junior guards Lindsay Sherbert and Keani Albanez both finished with 13 points for the Zags. 

Gonzaga will host No. 24 San Diego this Saturday, Jan. 11, 2:00 p.m., at the Kennel. The Toreros (15-1, 4-1) just lost their first game of the season to Portland,  72-51, on Wednesday, Jan. 8.
