YAKIMA, WA - If you have been to the Lowe's in Yakima, you may have noticed it looks a little empty. It turns out the store isn't closing, it just moved.
Friday the new Lowe's location opened up to the public across the street from Costco on Longfibre Avenue in Yakima.
The new store has 94,000 square-feet or retail space and has a garden center four times larger than the original location.
The store manager said they were ready for a change.
"We just outgrew that building and it was time to move on. It served it's purpose for 22 plus years and to bring the new experience to the community we just really needed a new site, and this was the site that was chosen," said store manager Brian Bruley.
Staff said they hired 125 employees for the move while still keeping everyone who worked at the old store.
It took only six-months to complete.
They will have grand opening festivities next Thursday and Saturday.
