Police Respond to False Alarms Set Off by Strong Winds

Posted: Updated:

KENNEWICK, WA-- The high winds Saturday tied up police with several false alarm calls.

Winds keep blowing open doors and windows and set off house alarms.

Officers treat every alarm call equally with caution, but urge people to double check their home is securely locked up so they can avoid spending their resources on false alarm calls.

"We don't know if we're going to a false alarm or we don't know if we're going to a burglary that is in progress or just occurred. So generally we'll have two or three officers responding to that every time. So the more false alarms we go to, the more resources it takes off the road," said Officer Dan Todd, Kennewick Police Department.

Todd says they responded to several calls in the early morning hours on Saturday and anticipate many more false alarm calls to add up while the high winds stick around.
