Yakima Suffers More Damage From High Winds Saturday Night

Posted: Updated:

YAKIMA, WA. -- The Yakima Valley saw more damage Saturday night thanks to strong overnight winds.

On Facebook people reported damage in Naches, Toppenish and Wapato. In Yakima, two fences on Bell Street off of 16th Avenue were blown over during the night.

Just blocks away a tree fell on a home Saturday morning, uprooted by the more than 70 miles-per-hour winds. One family watched as a fence, held into the ground by metal rods, was blown over.

"It was just a loud noise," Mike Swan said. "Lot of sound from the wind blowing real hard. Sometimes it felt real strong. You could feel the wind gusts come up and then slow down."

Pacific Power said more than 3,000 customers lost power at some point over the weekend. Most power is back on except for a few scattered outages around the valley.
