SPOKANE, Wash. -

This statement on the arrest of Timothy Suckow for the murder of Doug Carlile was released by Spokane Police Chief Frank Straub:

"Today, less than one month after the murder of Doug Carlile, Spokane Police Major Crimes Detectives have arrested a suspect, Timothy Suckow.

SPD Major Crimes detectives have been relentless in their investigation of this incident. They have collected evidence, followed up on leads and taken a suspect into custody very quickly.

Following the homicide that occurred on December 15th, our Major Crimes detectives searched the scene, recovered a glove and entered that glove into evidence. DNA was recovered from the glove that matched the suspect, Timothy Suckow.

The victim, Mr. Carlile, was involved in a series of complex business transactions centered on oil fields in North Dakota. Evidence suggests that those transactions may have provided motive for the homicide.

Last night, a search warrant was executed on Mr. Suckow’s vehicle. Major Crimes detectives recovered a note, detailing a plan believed to be connected to the incident. Additionally, a black ski mask was recovered. It should be noted that a witness observed the shooter wearing a black ski mask.

As part of this on-going investigation, we are working federal agencies, including the FBI and Homeland Security, to pursue additional leads.

Mr. Suckow is known to law enforcement and has served time in state and federal prison for Burglary and Unlawful Possession of a Firearm.

In addition to the homicide of Doug Carlile, we have had one other homicide this year, the homicide of Arnold Lommasson on N. Astor. Days after the homicide, detectives identified a suspect in that case. He is currently in custody in Oregon, awaiting extradition.

This morning, SPD Patrol officers arrested a juvenile male in connection with a recent pharmacy robbery. This investigation is on-going.

Earlier today we received a call of shots fired in the 1800 block of W. Gardener. Within minutes members of SPD Patrol and our Patrol Anti-Crime Team stopped a vehicle and detained two people after a short pursuit. We have recovered several guns in connection to the incident and the investigation is ongoing.

The men and women of the Spokane Police Department continuously demonstrate outstanding dedication and professionalism to protect the safety of our community and bring those responsible for crime quickly to justice.

We concluded 2013 with an -8.5 percent reduction in violent crime.

As of today, overall crime in the City of Spokane is down by more than -8 percent.

Crime reduction and the safety of our community are our top priorities."
