KENNEWICK, WA - A girl from West Richland is making a difference for homeless pets in the area.

Instead of birthday presents Emma Laviolette, 11, asked her party guests to bring items on the wish list for Adopt Shelter Animal Pets, or a.s.a.p., a new group that provides foster homes for stray pets picked up by the city of West Richland.

Emma says it's her love of animals that makes her want to help out.

I just feel bad for all the animals who don't have owners like us, who can love them all the time, and so I just wanted to give back to the animals who don't have as much as my dogs do," she said.

All together Emma's friends and family brought in more than $300 worth of donations.
