A place of worship is quite literally picking up the pieces after someone broke in and vandalized a Finley church.
FINLEY, WA - A place of worship is quite literally picking up the pieces after someone broke in and vandalized a Finley church. In Step Church is just one target in a rash of break ins across the east side of Kennewick.
This isn't the first time In Step Church has been broken into, either. But this time, it was much worse.
"Pretty much all the doors, the door jam has been broken into and then you can see inside the cabinets," said church member Matt Gutzmer.
The church trustee found the building in ruins on Wednesday morning. It's believed it happened sometime Tuesday night.
"They came in, they broke all our doors, kicked in all the doors we have upstairs and the children's rooms, crafts rooms, broke in a couple different windows," said Gutzmer.
"The nursery window. That's where our youngest kids are and our nursery workers, they get to be a part of it and we can see our kids when we're in the sanctuary. To have that totally thrashes, that just hurts my heart," said leadership member Staci Curvow.
The culprits took fire extinguishers and sprayed them all over the inside of the church, as well. But it wasn't just vandalism. Whoever did this also stole five guitars that belonged to the worship team's members.
For a small church of about 100 people a crime like this is hard to stomach, especially the second time around.
"That's one thing we are, is a family. So we've just made some phone calls and you know, everybody's just said, let us know when and where and we'll be there and we'll get it done and move forward," said Curvow.
