YAKIMA, WA - On Thursday, the Homeless Network of Yakima County is doing its 10th annual Point in Time Survey and its sixth annual Project Homeless Connect event.
The purpose of the survey is to determine the number of homeless people in our area.
Last year they counted almost 900 homeless individuals, which is a 29% decrease since 2006.
In Benton and Franklin counties, last year they counted more than 500.
Project Homeless Connect provides these homeless individuals with health and dental care, vision and hearing screenings, haircuts, hot meals and care packages.
If you want to help out, they are looking for donations for care packages including hygiene products and warm clothes.
This year the locations are at the Yakima Convention Center, Noah's Ark in Wapato, The Toppenish Food bank and the Sunnyside Community Center.
