EUGENE, Ore. – Washington State dropped a Pac-12 Conference road contest 82-66 to the University of Oregon Friday in Matthew Knight Arena.

Sophomore guard Lia Galdeira led the Cougars (11-8, 5-2 Pac-12) with 16 points and junior guard Tia Presley added 14 points after going 10-of-12 at the free throw line. Senior forward Sage Romberg recorded nine points after hitting three 3-pointers and also grabbed seven rebounds. Sophomore guard Dawnyelle Awa finished with nine points and senior forward Hana Potter brought down a season-high seven rebounds. The Cougars were held to 29 percent shooting despite hitting 10 from behind the arc.

Oregon (10-8, 1-6 Pac-12) shot over 43 percent and owned a 59-35 rebounding advantage, outscoring the Cougars 44-22 in the paint and recording 18 second-chance points. Forward Jillian Alleyne recorded 21 points and 19 rebounds.

Oregon jumped out to an early double-digit lead with a 20-9 start, shooting over 46 percent in the first nine minutes as the Cougars saw a number of shots rattle out.

Trailing by as much as 18, the Cougars slowly settled in and used a 7-0 streak to ignite the offense. Awa got things going with a drive she finished with the left hand, sophomore forward Mariah Cooks followed with a three in the left corner and senior guard Brandi Thomas scored on a rebound putback. The run later grew to 17-1 after a three from Galdeira, another driving layin from Awa and a three from senior guard Sage Romberg.

The Cougars closed the half with a 17-4 run to head into the half trailing five, 33-28 despite shooting 24 percent.

Washington State opened the second half with a 7-2 run, tying the game at 35 after a runner in the lane by Presley.

The Ducks countered with 10 straight points, seven coming from Alleyne, that proved to be the turning point. Romberg hit a pair of threes to keep the Cougars close but Oregon continued to come away with rebounds and converted on the offensive end to keep their lead in double digits for the remainder of the game. The Ducks shot 50 percent from the field in the second half.

Washington State continues its Oregon road trip with a matchup against Oregon State University Sunday at 2 p.m.
