Hermiston Annexes Oregon State University Extension Center
HERMISTON, OR – Oregon State
University's Hermiston Agricultural Research & Extension Center (HAREC) will
soon be able to conduct more research on local crops thanks to an annexation
approved by the Hermiston City Council on Monday.
The annexation of 168 acres into
the city limits will allow HAREC to purchase water from the City of
Hermiston/Port of Umatilla Regional Water System to irrigate additional land for
research. The water will be applied to land which isn't currently being

everything we can to support it."
HAREC serves nearly 500,000 acres
of irrigated agriculture in Oregon and Washington's Columbia Basin. The center
concentrates on discovery and implementation of agricultural and horticultural
opportunities and provides solutions to production restraints. OSU has operated
an Extension Center in the Hermiston area since 1909.
