TUESDAY:

We have just returned from Media Day in Newark.  I don't know if it's the nonstop buzz of the media blitz, the incessant caucophany of cab horns, or the express elevator to our 39th floor hotel room, but my ears are ringing.

Where do I begin? Acclaimed sports writer Rick Reilly tearing me a new one for asking a Seahawk receiver too many questions?  Seahawks tight end Zach Miller rubbing my head for good luck? Journeyman Heath Farwell shaking my hand at least two times during our interview because he was so pumped to be a part of the Super Bowl?

How about we start with the circus that is Media Day.  If pressed to describe it, I'd say imagine a zoo.  Then imagine every animal in the zoo being let out of its cage.  That's Media Day.

The Seahawks media session started with us camping out in front of Doug Baldwin's podium.  You see, Media Day is like fishing (well, there goes that zoo analogy)... you can go elbow to elbow with tons of other anglers and go for a whopper (Russell Wilson, Pete Carroll, Richard Sherman), or you can settle into a nice little spot down the river for a better shot at a "good eatin' size" fish.

Our patience was rewarded when we got a front row seat to Baldwin's podium.  Then I asked him some questions.  And some more questions.  And then some more questions.  I finally got a tug on the shoulder and a not-so-polite request to cease and desist from Reilly.  Unbeknownst to me, a rather large media contingent had gathered behind me, patiently waiting for me to wrap it up.

Oops.

Next to Baldwin on press row was tight end Zach Miller.  Somehow during our interview, he wound up rubbing my bald pate for good luck for the Super Bowl.  I'd say I'll never wash my head again, but I don't think anyone would benefit from that.  It was oddly pleasurable for both parties, though, and I may have some explaining to do to my wife.

But my two favorite interviews had to be with Benson Mayowa and Heath Farwell.  Both are little-known players on the Seahawks roster who see little to no snaps on the football field.  Mayowa played college ball at Idaho for the Vandals and won two games his entire senior year in Moscow.  Now he's a practice squad and scout team player getting the Super Bowl treatment.  Farwell was an undrafted free agent out of college, and has worked his way up to team captain with the Seahawks as a special teamer.  Both were very appreciative to be interviewed and seemed to be marveling in the insanity that is the Super Bowl.

Speaking of insanity, we have lots more of this chaos to chronicle throughout the week.  Much like the players, we're enjoying the festivities, but our sights are also set on Super Sunday.

PREVIOUS BLOG FROM TUESDAY:

As I sit here writing this, Terrell Davis is sitting right across from me at the lunch table.  But if former 2,000 yard rushers don't float your boat, how about literally bumping into Chris Berman? Posing for a photo with Montana native/former Gonzaga basketball commit Brock Osweiler? Having Peyton Manning stride right by you? That's Super Bowl Media Day, folks. And we're only at lunch time.

The Seahawks are due for their session in about 30 minutes.  Gotta finish my lunch with TD!
