KENNEWICK, WA – We are starting to see the Seahawks logo everywhere we go lately. One local artist is painting that blue and green on pretty much anything you give him, even some high heels.
"I've done pillows and shower curtains. I've done fingernails, high heels, a propane tank…motorcycles. I've painted many a person before," explained Jeremy Mensinger.
Give him an item and he will give you art. Mensinger discovered his talents at Hanford High.
"It started kind of in high school. I had a high school teacher kind of kick me out of class too many times and said hey, you got a talent so use it."
He took that advice with him to college in Arizona. He started out painting motorcycles at shops and realized he could turn a profit. Now he is back here raising a family working out in his back yard shop whenever he can. With his small business Swagger Ink he and his buddy like working one on one with locals.
"It's nice to have a little bit of freedom and be able to say no to certain things and take on a project that might take you 3-4 months."
You may recognize some of his work around the Tri-Cities...like the Despicable Me cartoon character he painted at Ranch & Home or the many yards he brightens up with a Seahawks logo or two. Right now those 12th man high heels are his big sellers. He cannot find time to sleep between trying to mass-produce that amazing footwear for so many women before Super Bowl Sunday.
"If there's a challenge out there and someone brings it so me that's the fun part of it because it's unknown territory; trial and error. Being a true artist and learning something new is always fun."
If the Hawks win big this weekend he says he hopes to be able to paint in big letters on those shoes "Super Bowl Champions". You can connect with Mensinger at their web site here: http://www.swaggerink.com/
