KENNEWICK, WA - It's been years in the making, but we could see something happening soon at a long-vacant strip mall in Kennewick.
The doors at 2909 S. Quillan are locked and it's totally empty on the inside but in as little as two months we could see someone move in. What's more, new construction directly across the strip mall is also in the works. The whole parcel is owned by the same person and is about eight acres.
"We're getting calls almost every day so things are heading in the right direction," said real estate agent Rob Ellsworth.
This, after years of uncertainty. The first developer who started construction at the site lost the property to foreclosure. A new owner stepped in, bought it from the bank and in the last year, finished the exterior and landscaping. Now the inside is build to suit.
"For sure he'll put in the floor, put in ADA bathrooms, wall and ceiling. Above that, he'll also credit at least five dollars a square foot," said Ellsworth.
"We're always excited to see new business come into this community and certainly, the city works hard to make sure we've got the infrastructure in place for economic development and to bring in new business," said Evelyn Lusignan with the City of Kennewick.
Ellsworth is marketing the Plaza at Canyon Lakes to both local businesses and big name chains.
"In the next 60 days, we'll probably have a tenant in place for at least one space. From there, once we get one tenant it's going to be like a domino effect," said Ellsworth.
"When new business comes in, it compliments existing ones and it's a win for everyone. That area is certainly growing and we are definitely focusing on seeing more growth in that area," said Lusignan.
Most of the other strip malls in the same area are full which is good news for potential tenants. Also, because the Plaza at Canyon Lakes is a bit off the main drag, the price points are actually cheaper than other spaces.
