Former Vandals Coach Akey Hired By Vikings

Former Idaho Vandals head football coach Robb Akey has been hired by the Minnesota Vikings to be their defensive line coach per ESPN. New Vikings head coach Mike Zimmer coached Akey while he was at Weber State.

Akey has never coached in the NFL, but was a defensive line coach or defensive coordinator at Weber State, Northern Arizona and Washington State before he was the Vandals head coach from 2007-'12.

Besides Zimmer and new offensive coordinator Norv Turner, Minnesota has not announced any members of its coaching staff. It is reported that George Edwards will be the new defensive coordinator and former Tennesse Titans defensive coordinator Jerry Gray will coach the defensive backs, along with Akey.
