SPOKANE, WA - With National Girl Scout Cookie Weekend coming up February 7th and 8th, thousands of local Girl Scouts are gearing up for the Cookie Program.
Girls throughout the 30-county Girl Scouts of Eastern Washington and Northern Idaho council will be taking cookie preorders from February 7th until March 20th.
The Girl Scout Association says the cookies are $4 per box, or five boxes for $20. The six types of cookies are Thin Mints, Samoas, Tagalongs, Trefoils, Do-Si-Dos and Savannah Smiles.
Girl Scouts from throughout the council have been attending cookie rallies during the past two weeks to create cookie selling tools (such as signs and decorations), practice talking to customers and share ideas about how to have the best possible sales.
"The girls are the experts about Girl Scout cookies and they want their customers to ask them questions about their goals, the different cookie types and what they or their troop will be doing with their cookie earnings (called cookie dough)," said Kelly Thompson, product sales manager for Girl Scouts of Eastern Washington and Northern Idaho.
Through the Cookie Program, the Girl Scouts earn money to fund community service and leadership projects, attend summer day and resident camps, buy items and supplies in the Girl Scout store, travel to destinations near and far and provide events for girls in their community.
The Girl Scouts say cookies ordered during the presale period will be delivered to customers beginning March 20th.
Booth sales outside retail locations in communities throughout the council area are scheduled from March 21th through April 13th.
