Metal theft is a constant issue in the area and thieves are even stealing the stuff from charities.
PASCO, WA - Metal theft is a constant issue in the area and thieves are even stealing the stuff from charities.
Over the last three weeks at the Goodwill in Pasco, they kept finding their metal recycling bin empty and they even saw the thief in the act. But this morning police knew who to look for and finally caught him stealing.
The Goodwill says about twice a week they would find their bin missing items before it was time for pick up.
Managers say whatever they can't sell at Goodwill they recycle and they depend on selling the left over metal to support their services.
"People feel maybe there it's a free for all but they're not. It's a revenue source for us to help us with our mission which is providing people jobs and helping them getting jobs out in the community," said Gordon Comfort, Goodwill Executive Director.
Comfort says this thief isn't the only one taking their recycling and it's a common problem they deal with.
They want people to know the metal may be in bins in the back of the building, but it's still their metal and adds up to some extra money to be earned for a good cause.
