KENNEWICK, WA - It's throwback Thursday and we're taking a look at a downtown Kennewick business that's been around for more than a century.
The Washington Hardware and Furniture store on West Kennewick Avenue has been serving customers since 1896!
The Gravenslund family took over the business in 1919 and it's been in the family ever since.
It originally opened its doors as a hardware store before expanding to include household goods and furniture in the 1940's.
The owners said it's the strong community support that's kept them open all these years.
"Without a lot of dedicated families that have both worked here and shopped here and encouraged people to come to us, we would've been gone long ago. I think it stands the test of time," said John Gravenslund, family owner.
Gravenslund says, the multigenerational nature of the business lives on. And several workers are following in the footsteps of relatives who stocked shelves there many years ago.
Gravenslund says they take great pride in being the local store people count on for hardware and furniture.
