YAKIMA, WA - Most of the main roads have been plowed by Monday, but that isn't making it any easier to find a parking space.

Once a snow plow comes through it pushes snow to the side up onto the sidewalk and that could make some drivers search for blocks to find an open space.

Yakima police are on the lookout for illegal parking and it's a matter of safety. Every parked car is supposed to leave enough space for a fire truck or ambulance to get by no matter the conditions. One Yakima resident told NBC Right Now he thinks parking would be a lot easier if the sidewalks were clean.

"We had a lot of snow so that makes it more difficult," Ernesto Gonzalez said. "You can't even see where the tow away parking is because they're not clean."

The Yakima Police Department has two officers patrolling for parking infractions. If they see a car blocking a street or driveway, you can receive a ticket or even have your car impounded.

This goes for if your car is stuck in the street as well. If that happens, don't abandon your car. Stay with it and call a tow truck for help.
