Never-Before-Seen Forensic Techniques and Artifacts Included Among Course Updates

BETHESDA, Md., Feb. 11, 2014 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- SANS Institute today announced it will debut its significantly revised FOR408: Windows Forensic course at the SANS Digital Forensics and Incident Response Training Event (DFIRCON -- pronounced de-'f?r-'kän) taking place in Monterey, CA, March 5 – 10.  Course attendees will learn about never-before-seen tools and techniques necessary to conduct critical Windows analysis on the latest Windows operating system platforms. For those unable to travel, SANS will offer this course online via simulcast live from DFIRCON.

The FOR408: Windows Forensic course has been updated with the latest forensics artifacts from Windows 8/8.1, Cloud, Windows Mobile, and Office 365.  According to SANS Instructor, Rob Lee, "a large number of today's automated forensic tools have trouble parsing the Windows 8.1 artifacts. SANS has worked closely with vendors and tool creators to help update many of their capabilities to address this need. The updated FOR408: Windows Forensic course offers attendees a unique opportunity to learn about these new forensic techniques and artifacts which have never been discussed publicly before."

Attendees of the FOR408: Windows Forensic course will learn how to:

  • Perform in-depth Windows forensic analysis
  • Learn how to determine files stolen during an IP theft
  • Track a user's every movement inside the Windows OS
  • Identify programs executed by the user
  • Examine event logs, registry, jump lists, and more

DFIRCON will be held in Monterey, CA, March 5 – 10, 2014. For more information, including panel and discussion overviews and a complete list of instructors, or to register for the event or one of the courses offered via simulcast, please visit:
